Scottsdale Vasectomy Reversal

Scottsdale Vasectomy Reversal

The Basics on Vasectomy Reversal Surgical Procedures

A vasectomy reversal is a surgical procedure that restores fertility in males by reversing the effect of a vasectomy. Any patient who is considering a vasectomy reversal procedure should be aware of the processes involved in the surgery, and the chances of restoring the ability to conceive following the procedure. Vasectomy reversal is still a relatively new process, and there are only a handful of male fertility doctors in the United States offering this service, such as in Scottsdale. Vasectomy reversal can be the right choice for many.

What Is Involved?

Basically, a vasectomy reversal procedure involves cutting away the surgical scar formed during the original vasectomy by separating the vas deferens, and rejoining the ends of the tubes in order to re-introduce live sperm into the seminal fluid. Since the vas deferens are very slender tubes, micro-surgeons are best suited to perform vasectomy reversal. The basic process of rejoining the vas deferens is referred to as a vasovasotomy.

Another less common but often more successful type of vasectomy reversal surgery is called the epididymovasotomy. This becomes necessary when the epididymus, which is a delicate structure at the top of the vas deferens, becomes blocked or scarred following a vasectomy.

For vasectomy reversal surgery, a general anesthesia is administered in a clinical office setting, and the surgery is a half-day, in-and-out procedure. Vasectomy reversal patients should not drive themselves home following surgery, and should plan on a recovery time of around four weeks. Fertility may be restored in six to eighteen months following surgery.
